As a remittance company registered with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), iRemit's remittance activities are governed by the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) of 2001 (Republic Act 9160 as amended by Republic Act 9194). The Company ensures that its procedures and systems, and all transactions that it processes comply with the relevant aspects of AMLA and its implementing rules and regulations.
One of the significant aspects of the Company's compliance program with respect to AMLA is the proper establishment of the true identity of its customers through the proper Customer Due Diligence procedures under the "Know Your Customer" (KYC) principle iRemit requires its customers to present documentary evidence of identity and residency, and when necessary, proofs of financial origin of the funds being remitted. The Company strictly implements a "no original identification means no business with iRemit" rule. The Company also keeps and maintains copies of all documents used to identify customers. It also periodically reports all "covered transactions" and if needed, suspicious transactions" to the Anti-Money Laundering Council of the Philippines.
All iRemit offices have duly-appointed compliance officers who are responsible for implementing all aspects of anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) regulations of their host countries. All foreign offices are provided with their respective CDD manuals that contain policies and guidelines in complying with the specific AML and CTF regulations of their host governments. These policies and regulations essentially adopt the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the inter-government body organized for the development and promotion of national and international policies to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
iRemit is also registered with the different financial authorities such as AUSTRAC, FINTRAC and DFI. To ensure compliance in the different continents, iRemit's Foreign System is linked to the database of OFAC, FINTRAC and EU in order to filter blocked individuals.
