PASAY CITY, PHILIPPINES—in a recent ceremony held at the Heritage Hotel, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) recognized iRemit as one of the Best Collecting Partners for fully automated scheme for Individually Paying Members category. “It is a testimony to our commitment of service first to the global Pinoy, and second, to the government in reaching out to overseas Filipinos,” says Harris Jacildo, iRemit President and COO. PhilHealth initially formed the partnership with iRemit—the Philippines’ largest, non-bank and fully Filipino-owned remittance company—back in 2003, to pioneer an overseas collection program for PhilHealth’s OFW members. As a remittance service provider, iRemit enables over 12 million OFWs to channel their premiums to Philhealth, guaranteeing that their families back home would be provided health care protection whenever they need it. Initially serving OFWs in Hong Kong, iRemit has greatly expanded its operations—channeling Philhealth payments from Filipinos abroad in 26 countries with the recent addition of offices in Japan. Aside from PhilHealth premiums, iRemit also processes contributions for Pag-IBIG and SSS. In addition to government agencies, the company also facilitates transactions for real estate payments and insurance premiums. The company continues to innovate ways in which Filipinos would be able to fulfill their financial obligations. iRemit Direct Online (iDOL) aims to improve ease of access by facilitating transactions through an internet-based platform. The program is to be initially launched in Canada, where over 400,000 Filipinos currently make up the 3rd largest ethnic minority in the country.
